Talking Prismatic build - a challenge!

Most elementalists don't use Prismatic insignia, because most elementalists don't spread their attribute points into four attribute lines. With enchantment-based energy management, it's much easier to meet the requirements of Blessed insignia, and Earth-based farming builds shun everything else in favor of Geomancer's. An elementalist would have to be insane, and rather ineffective, in order to even think about using Prismatic insignia.

Still, that potentially unconditional +20AL is tempting...

Does anyone think they can come up with an effective Prismatic build? "Effective" doesn't have to mean anything specific, or even - gods forbid! - "top tier." Basically, it would have to look decent enough to be accepted by a laid-back group (which at this point in the game would limit it to guild groups rather than PUGs, sadly), and it would have to work well enough that you'd actually be pulling your weight rather than having the group carry you.

The attributes will be spread pretty thin - in order to get to 9 with a minor rune you'll need to put 37 points on each attribute line, which would account for 148 out of 200 possible points, or 185 out of 200 if you're going to raise Energy Storage to 8 as well. Playing around with different combinations of Major/Superior runes may net different combinations, of course, which is precisely why I'm throwing this out here

As for the why - do this for fun. If you don't, the terrorists- I mean, the QQing "there's no more originality left in Guild Wars" lamers - win. And we don't want them to win, do we?

who uses kinetic anyway?
the whole ppoint was for an original build not an ursan build.
Moloch Veins build seems fun for 1v1 with warriors

11+1+2 fire
8+1 water
8+1 earth
8+1 air
4 estorage

fire attunement
mind blast
rodgorts
shell shock
enervating charge
ward against melee
deep freeze
maelstrom

I know, I'm amazing when it comes to making up builds. Thank you. Thank you. /bows

By the way, running multiple superiors+majors just to get additional +5 armor is silly.

What a fun idea for a thread, thus a good place to make my 1st post on guru.

I had a bit of fun trying to find decent builds fitting the criteria. The assumptions I used were a) not to use major or superior runes (pointless for gaining +5AR), b) to have each element actually contribute something to the build and c) this is for PvE only. And the bar is going to be crowded enough without a rez, so use a scroll.

With that in mind I made a list of potential elite e-management skills, and figured a build for each and two for some. Here are the results:

"Exhaustion!? - I don't take no frigging exhaustion!"
[build prof=E air=9+1+1 earth=8+1 fire=8+1 water=8+1 energy=8+1][glyph of energy][glyph of lesser energy][blinding flash][earthquake][eruption][meteor shower][deep freeze][maelstrom][/build]
You get to dish out nasty AoE effects: blind against physicals, interrupt against casters, KD, and a mass snare to keep the enemies in place. A spot blind and a token amount of damage, too. Notice how the good stuff isn't affected by the diluted attributes. Energy shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep on using the glyphs. Long cast times and recharges also "help" in this regard, as you may not get to cast many spells before the fight is over. Possible changes might be [[mark of rodgort] for meteor shower (use a fire weapon, obviously), your favorite ward or [[mindbender] or perhaps [[gale] for earthquake or deep freeze.

"Mind Blast - it's the shit!"
[build prof=E air=8+1 earth=8+1 fire=10+1+1 water=8+1 energy=7+1][fire attunement][mind blast][rodgorts invocation][glyph of immolation][earthen shackles][steam][slippery ground][lightning orb][/build]
In addition to the MB+RI spam apply 90% snare, burning, blind, KD and cracked armor on a single target. I bet you could get some top notch commentary from enemy warriors using this in RA ([[shell shock] replacing the pvp orb, and a res for rodgort's, I guess.).

"I only accept the best."
[build prof=E air=8+1 earth=10+1+1 fire=8+1 water=8+1 energy=7+1][elemental attunement][glyph of lesser energy][blinding flash][eruption][ward against melee][flame djinns haste][maelstrom][no skill][/build]
Here the idea is to pick the best that each element has to offer. So air = blind, earth = ward, fire = meh (speed boost), water = caster interrupt. Add the ever so sexy eruption and e-management, and there's even a slot left for your favorite PvE skill or whatever.

"Hey, look at this weird skill I found!"
[build prof=E air=10+1+1 earth=8+1 fire=8+1 water=8+1 energy=7+1][elemental attunement][air attunement][glyph of elemental power][lightning orb][lightning hammer][iron mist][mark of rodgort][blurred vision][/build]
Anyone ever used [[iron mist]? I haven't. But it just might work here. You can pretty much stop someone from moving for a long time, and then zap him to dead with dual attuned orb and hammer. Blurred vision gives a little party support, and mark of rodgort works as a cover hex as well as providing a bit of degen potential. GoEP adds to damage and hex durations.

"Leeeeerooooooyy Eeeleementaliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiist!"
[build prof=E/Me energy=8+1 air=8+1 earth=8+1+1 fire=8+1 water=8+1 inspiration=5][elemental attunement][mantra of earth][stone striker][stoneflesh aura][whirlwind][aftershock][frozen burst][flame djinns haste][/build]
The prismatic hit&run ele. Put up the defenses, run to the middle of the enemy horde, unleash your fury and run away laughing. Or wait for your mates to kill them and res you. Eh, whatever. But here you at least try to take advantage of the prismatic insignia. Energy should be ok for at least two suicide attempts per fight, depending on how much you actually get hit with the mantra and [stone striker] on. And if you want to go Leroy all the way, might as well replace stoneflesh by [[glyph of elemental power]. A shield set should be a given here.

"Spam? Mmm, tasty!."
[build prof=E energy=9+1+1 air=8+1 earth=8+1 fire=8+1 water=8+1][glyph of swiftness][ether renewal][aura of restoration][enervating charge][stoning][immolate][steam][elemental lord][/build]
The spammable ele damage spells are either pathetic ([[flare], [[lightning javelin] etc.) or too energy hungry to be spammed for even ER with only 3 enchantments ([[rodgorts invocation], [[lightning hammer]). So let's go for (semi-)spammable single target conditions and some damage. I'd really like to use [[glyph of elemental power] instead of elemental lord, but ER really requires the extra enchantment, especially with the downtime and only 3e returned per enchantment. Might also try to replace enervating charge and stoning by [[lightning orb] and a ward.

"I just hate those big brutes."
[build prof=E energy=9+2+1 air=8+1 earth=8+1 fire=8+1 water=8+1][master of magic][ward against melee][eruption][chilling winds][blurred vision][mindbender][summon mursaat][flare][/build]
Here I'm using a major ES rune just to hit a critical break point on [master of magic]. The idea of the build is obviously to massively disable the enemy physicals. Summon mursaat is a long recharge skill to help with MoM energy gain, and it helps with melee shutdown by delivering weakness around. Flare is spammed to gain energy. (I can't believe it. My 1st post and I'm putting up a build with flare. Well, move on already, pls.)

"Yes! I'm even more insane than you already knew!"
[build prof=E/A energy=8+1 air=8+1 earth=8+1 fire=8+1+1 water=8+1 deadly=5][assassins promise][finish him][glyph of lesser energy][ice spikes][searing heat][teinais heat][eruption][chain lightning][/build]
The prismatic AP "nuker". I know this one is truly a stretch. But with the AP nuker probably being the best pure DD build an ele can use, I just had to give it a go. So you get 8 sec window for AP. "Finish Him!" to ensure the kill. Must have GoLE for energy. AoE damage from each element. And no way in hell there is enough energy to keep nuking (or "nuking", if you prefer). Maybe if you put [[fire attunement] in place of "Finish Him!", and mostly use the heats, you could pull it off. But that is still only a degenerate bastard brother of the real AP nuker, with only blind from eruption going for it.

So there you have it. I'm ready now to be torn to pieces by the wolves that hang around here. So go ahead. Cos if you don't, I'm gonna feel leet.

And more importantly, Shyft, where's my cookie? (How many do I get, anyway? )
